[GRAPHIC] Noordheuwel bunnies beaten to death

Residents are asking the community to please be careful with the rabbits at a Noordheuwel park. Three of them were recently found beaten to death.

A distraught community member recently made a gruesome discovery at the park on the corner of Hantamsberg and Van Oord Streets in Noordheuwel.

The woman, who lives opposite the park, said that she puts out food for the rabbits living in the park, but does not interact with them because she does not want them to get too tame.

It is believed that community members dump their rabbits in this park when they no longer want to look after them. The rabbits are not sterilised and this has resulted in the population growing rapidly.

These days, when you visit the park, you can see them running around everywhere.

“People bring their children to look at, feed and play with the bunnies,” said the concerned resident.

She warned that doing this tames the rabbits, which then run into traffic and open themselves up to more gruesome acts.

One of these was the killing of three baby rabbits. The woman went to put out food as she regularly does when she discovered that three rabbits had been beaten to death.

She brought the bodies into the News’ offices to show the atrocities that had taken place.

She would like to ask the community to please not tame these rabbits and to be careful when travelling around the park.
