A couple from Doornkloof on the R24 was met with a grisly sight when they woke up on Friday, 16 August at about 10.30pm.
The 62-year-old man and his wife were asleep when they were woken up by the sound of dogs barking. The next thing they knew four men entered their bedroom, pointing firearms and a knife at them.
The men demanded the key to the safe and money, and ordered the couple to lie on the floor.

The man told them he did not have a safe and also had no money. One of the intruders then assaulted him with a monkey wrench. The thugs also burned him, his wife and his brother-in-law with an iron and boiling water.
They were then tied up and the house was ransacked. The attackers took two firearms, jewellery, cellphones, a TV set, a computer, a laptop, a PlayStation, food and clothing before leaving the scene on foot.
A case of house robbery has been opened and the police are investigating.
“Police are appealing to community members to please come forward with information that can assist in bringing these perpetrators to book,” asked Constable Gloria Maswanganye, Hekpoort police’s spokesperson.
She added that the police are urging the community not to approach these suspects as they are deemed to be heavily armed. Rather phone the police.
The Hekpoort Police can be reached on 014 576 9100 or contact the Crime Stop number 08600 1011.
