When the Emellang Pre-school received a piece of land from Mogale City to use for their centre, it was a dream come true.
Soon, buildings were raised, toys and educational items gathered and teachers appointed. What they didn’t have, though, was something they wouldn’t be able to work without. They didn’t have access to water as there was no plumbing on the premises.
They later acquired a small water tank but, as the number of learners increased, this soon became insufficient. The Dikala Setlhare group has however been working with the creche for four years, doing what they can to improve the school. They first approached some of their personal contacts for help, but the word spread quickly and, soon enough, multiple businesses stepped forward to offer their help.
Many projects have already been completed to improve the facilities, but the latest, which was implemented on Friday, 30 August, finally provided the school with an answer to the water problem.
Plumberama agreed to donate a brand new 2 700 litre Jojo water tank to Emellang. The tank was delivered that morning, along with sweet packets and some toys for the children, who were too preoccupied with these to notice the large tank. But, it didn’t go unnoticed by the teachers, who openly demonstrated their excitement and gratitude, knowing that this tank would make their work much easier in the long run.
The school and their beneficiaries now need to look to their next projects and search out help so that they can expand the classrooms, add a storage room and employ better security. They are also currently attempting to attain a wooden jungle gym for the children to play on outside.
