A statement sent out by the Kagiso Police about illegal firearms has paid off, as they have recovered four unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“Following our media statement and local radio interviews about firearms in the hands of criminals and urging the public to provide information that will expose or bust the perpetrators, two suspects aged between 36 and 37 years of age were cornered and arrested,” explained a statement from the Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya.

The statement further explained that members of the Flying Squad received information from the Kagiso Crime Intelligence unit about two armed men.
The men were believed to be at a certain house in Tshepisong. Police proceeded to the house and found a 37-year-old man inside a shack. They conducted a search and found a firearm and seven rounds of ammunition inside the man’s trousers.
Further investigation showed that the firearm had been stolen somewhere in Meadowlands in August this year. The man was placed under arrest and then led the officer to the house of his 36-year-old accomplice.
They found the accomplice at home and searched his property where they found three more unlicensed firearms – a 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition; a 7.65mm pistol with a magazine loaded with four rounds of ammunition and a .38 special revolver.
The two men were detained at the Kagiso Police Station and a docket for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition was opened.
“The recovered firearms will be sent to our laboratories for ballistic testing. The suspects will appear in court soon,” said the statement.
