On Sunday, 6 October, at about 3am, three men reportedly took advantage of a man driving home from a tavern in Kagiso.
The complainant was allegedly on Sandpiper Street when he stopped for three men hitchhiking by the side of the road.
Two of the men got onto the back of his white Ford light delivery vehicle (LDV) (licence number XDG 910 GP), while the third climbed into the passenger seat.
He claimed that, a few minutes later, one of the men from the back asked to be dropped off.
“As soon as the vehicle had stopped, the suspect alighted from the back and also drew a firearm, ordering the complainant out of the LDV,” Captain Solomon Sibiya noted in a report.
Sibiya warned, “Leaving the tavern/ shebeen and driving very late at night or in the early hours of the morning can cost you dearly and affect those who love and care about you. LDVs are the most targeted kind of vehicles, not in the West Rand District only, but throughout the country. To drive at that time and still give lifts to strangers is seriously questionable”.
