[PHOTOS] More than R2 million raised for kids with cancer

At the recent Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer Day that was hosted all over the country, more than R2 million was raised, just by selling cupcakes.

Minnie Mouse, Lion King, unicorns and mermaids were just some of the exceptional decorated cupcakes for sale at this year’s National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer.

Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit company and public benefit organisation, has raising awareness and funds for families in need of medical assistance as its aim.

Some cute cupcakes.

In Krugersdorp there were stalls at Valley View Retail Centre, Cradlestone Mall and Key West Shopping Centre.

At Key West the team was already set up by 9am and although there was almost no space for another cupcake on the beautifully decorated tables, there were still plenty of cupcakes left in the back.

“We had to move the stand during the day because there weren’t enough feet coming past,” said Bianca van Vuuren, one of the organisers.

The event took place at 88 malls around the country and this year they raised R2,1 million by selling these cup cakes for R10 each.

The money raised will be used to assist about 70 patients a month by paying for their medical and day-to-day expenses. These include nutritional food, nappies and transport money to go to hospital for check ups.

To date, the organisation has helped more than 1 500 patients and 16 other cancer charities in South Africa.

The teams also distributed pamphlets listing the early warning signs of childhood cancer.

Next on the Cupcakes of Hope’s to do list is their Superhero Day which will be taking place on 31 October. This is a special day where they celebrate the lives of their little super heroes by dressing up as super heroes.
