Criminals have no place to hide from the best station in Gauteng

"No place for criminals to hide," said station commander, Brigadier Mashao after the Krugersdorp Police Station was voted best station in Gauteng.

After being voted best police station on the West Rand recently, the Krugersdorp Police Station has done it again. They won the award for best police station in Gauteng at the recent annual Provincial Excellence Awards!

The awards were held at Emperors’ Palace on Friday, 4 October. The station commander of the Krugersdorp Police Station, Brigadier Mashao, was also voted the second runner-up for the best Operations Manager of the Year in Gauteng.

Mashao came from the Lanseria Police Station and took over as station commander at the end of January 2018.

According to him, winning the award has definitely motivated him and he believes that it will also motivate not only the members of his station but also the rest of Krugersdorp in their fight against crime.

According to him, preventing crimes before they happen is a key factor in the fight against crime.

When he came to Krugersdorp, there were lots of problems, he said. The community members were not happy with the police and some satellite stations had even been burnt down.

That is why he focused on strengthening the relationship between the community, safety structures in the community, the local councillors and the police.

Another focus was to identify crime hot-spots and increase patrols in these places. They also increased social crime awareness and have made numerous big arrests concerning illegal mining, among other things.

So what does the future hold for the station? Well, Mashao said they are planning to increase the crime prevention crusade.

He explained that he also wants to increase the number of community patrollers and have as many Community Policing Forum Patrollers as possible.

He invited the members of the community to present their ideas on how to fight crime, and explained that crime is a social problem and thus everyone’s responsibility.

Lastly, he wanted to thank the office of the Executive Mayor of Mogale City, and Executive Mayor Naga Patrick Lipudi.
