A statement from Kagiso Police’s spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, reads as follows: “Elderly people, women and children are considered vulnerable groups that require everyone’s protection. There are however those in our communities who see them as soft targets to torture and even murder in cold blood instead”.
The statement said further that they are looking for the person responsible for murdering a 78-year-old man near Soul City. The man’s body was found near the settlement, buried under rocks.

Sibiya said that neighbours became suspicious after they had not seen the man in his yard for two days.
“They started searching for him in the area and nearby bushes,” Sibiya said.
They found the man’s body a few metres from where he lived, and phoned the police. The body was positively identified.
The statement also mentioned that police noticed scratch marks around the man’s neck.
“The motive for the killing is unknown and police have opened a murder docket,” added Sibiya.
He said that they are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that can assist them in the investigation.
