The West Rand Police are not letting up on criminals in the area, especially with the festive season kicking off soon.
During the past weekend, the West Rand Police made a remarkable 231 arrests. These arrests were the result of investigations into reported cases as well as operations conducted in the area. One of these operations was the ever-successful O Kae Malao.
On Friday between noon and 2pm, the West Rand district members and patrollers shifted their focus to the Kagiso and Muldersdrift police precincts.
The people arrested include undocumented foreign nationals and people dealing in liquor without a licence. These people were arrested and their liquor confiscated.
The police also arrested drunk drivers and recovered illegal mining equipment.
Other crimes that landed perpetrators behind bars include murder, kidnapping, robbery, house-breaking and theft, possession of stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, assault, theft, malicious damage to property, illegal mining, contravention of mine health and shoplifting.
“Major General Kekana was satisfied with these arrests and expressed his gratitude to the members of the community who at all times are willing to work with the police in the fight against crime,” said a statement from Constable Gloria Maswanganye, spokesperson for the Hekpoort Police.
