She wants to empower youth worldwide

A young woman from Kagiso is dreaming big. She is taking part in the Miss Kagiso competition and has been running two projects for the past few years. She dreams of empowering the youth worldwide.

The 20-year-old Amogelang Matsele from Kagiso has big dreams – not only to be the next Miss Kagiso but also to help her community.

She is currently doing her first year in hospitality studies at the South West Gauteng College in Roodepoort and said that she has a passion for children and the elderly.

“In 2016 I started my feeding programme in Kagiso Ext 8 at the Restoration Church of God after realising that some of the children came to the service hungry,” she explained.

“I started by buying snacks, little by little, until the church joined in and started helping with donations.”

The project quickly evolved into a feeding scheme and they started providing cooked meals for the children. She explained that the added bonus was that those young children who came to be fed, also received the Word. “At the same time they are being groomed spiritually.”

In 2017 she started a matric dance project

“I saw how many young people were asking for help on social media, and I ended up lending them dresses until other dress donations also started coming in.”

She said that her projects have drawn a lot of attention and many people have been coming to her to ask for help. She is asking the community to help her, not only with donations but guidance as well.

“I entered the Miss Kagiso pageant with a clear understanding that it is not just a beauty pageant but a pageant that builds brains too,” she added excitedly.

She wants to spread the message that queens come in all shapes, sizes, colours and heights.

Amogelang said that she understood the history of society and she wanted to use the Miss Kagiso platform to give input.

“I believe through this pageant I can empower the youth; not only from Kagiso, but worldwide. I am building a strong character that will encourage the youth to use their skills and bring a change in our world,” she said proudly.

Her motto in life is ‘Rise and shine, for the glory of God is upon you’.
