Year end breakfast helps women find inner happiness

The Women of the Westrand held their year end function recently and celebrated other influential women in the community.

Woman of the Westrand (WOW) hosted their year-end function at the beginning of December with the theme ‘Happiness is …’ breakfast at The Barefoot Kitchen in Muldersdrift in support of The Cradle of Hope organisation.

The women’s state of happiness were challenged, as it was cold and rainy with no electricity due to a power failure, but with a positive mindset the WOW champions thoroughly enjoyed the morning, especial when a cosy log fire was lit and chilled champagne was served. Soon the women relaxed and a sense of gratitude set in as they mingled.

The morning started off with each woman receiving a beautifully packaged ‘bag of happiness’, filled with unique and different items and was soon followed by a mini happiness workshop conducted by Janet Booysen, founder of WOW, where tips, techniques and tools were shared.

The guest speaker and co-owner of Zanoni Chocolates, Carmen Finlay, shared her story as a warrior of multiple sclerosis. Her positive attitude and love for life keep her going with a smile, no matter the circumstances. Her message was clear – happiness is a choice!

Belinda van Pype from The Art & Soul Shop conducted a light meditation session with the group. She shared a few techniques and the benefits of meditation. This was so special, because as she mentioned, all the elements – Earth, Wind, Water and Fire – were present for a calming meditation. It was a beautiful, relaxing moment that everyone enjoyed.

Sharon Lee from The Cradle of Hope shared her story as a survivor of mental and physical abuse before finding refuge at The Cradle of Hope. Today she raises awareness and much-needed funds for this amazing non-profit organisation.

Leilani Kuter, who was brutally raped and left for dead 27 years ago, has raised awareness and funds through her YellowForSurvivors campaign. She donated R10 000 to The Cradle of Hope at the breakfast.

Thereafter Bronwyn Maguire from Shades of Ngwenya arranged a 15-minute glass-blowing demonstration, displaying the fine art and technique of this interesting and fascinating profession.

Cindy Levy from CLF Retail Concepts initiated the handbag drive with The Cradle of Hope by which the women, upon entrance, generously donated new and gently used handbags packed to the brim with luxury and essential products for destitute, abused and vulnerable women.

“We are so blown away by this wonderful gesture – together we’re making a positive difference to people’s lives.”
