Not the end of curbside collections

Where one recycling door closes, another opens; Recycle for our Future is hoping to help Krugersdorp residents by doing curbside collections of recyclable materials.

Mpact Recycling is a major advocate for helping the environment, with recycling at the centre of their services. Until recently, the company provided the valuable service of collecting recyclable materials from people’s houses.

Unfortunately, as of Friday, 13 December, the company found it necessary to terminate their curbside collection programme. The MD for Mpact, John Hunt, said that the termination is due to the recycling industry constantly evolving, and while they are still fully committed to recycling, they cannot collect anymore. Recyclables can still be dropped off at one of the several collection sites utilised by Mpact.

Not many people have the time or resources (such as transport) to take their recyclables to the pick-up points, so residents weren’t happy at the news. But there is a silver lining to every dark cloud.

Recycle for Our Future is a recycling company that has been in operation for 32 years and has the same values as Mpact. For the past 10 years, they have been doing curbside collections from various estates and complexes. With Mpact terminating their curbside collections, Recycle for our Future has decided to extend their free curbside collection programme to all residences so that recycling doesn’t decrease.

They want the residents of the West Rand to continue to recycle, or start recycling if they haven’t already. They will collect the recyclables free of charge to help not only the community, but the environment.

The company collects all recyclable materials.

The Krugersdorp community is urged to make use of this valuable service if they cannot drop off their recyclable materials.
