Man caught with 400 packets of Nyaope

During a routine patrol police members caught and arrested a man with 400 packets of Nyaope.

The police arrested a man on 6 January for being in possession of a considerably large amount of drugs.

At about 2.30pm on Monday, the 21-year-old man was arrested with 400 packets of Nyaope at the Ga Mogale location, a statement from the Magaliesburg police’s spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Phithi, read.

The drugs came to an estimated value of R12 000.

Phithi said that the police officers were doing routine patrols when they spotted a suspicious man. While interrogating the man they saw something that was suspected to be drugs, in the man’s possession.

She explained that the use of drugs have become an increasing problem among high school learners and teenagers around the same age.

“The use and abuse of illegal drugs are a health, social and law enforcement problem that is affecting all societies. Drug abuse is destroying the lives of many teenagers and adults and is also destroying families. Drugs have a negative impact on everyone’s life as anyone who uses it either become an addict or commit crime like stealing property to sell so that they can sustain their habit on a daily basis,” the statement read.

She said that even though you might not be directly impacted by drug abuse, for police, it still remains a mandate to fight the war against crime and create a drug free world.

“Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Joyce Julla applauded the members for making such an arrest, and said that all found to be on the wrong side of the law, like those dealing in drugs, will be arrested. Lets work together in fight against drugs in our communities,” the statement read.
