Friend helps with the arrest of 22-year-old murder suspect
After an argument between two young men, one lost his life while the other planned a life on the run. Police however quickly caught up with him.
A man was recently arrested by the Muldersdrift police after stabbing a young man and then fleeing the scene.
In a statement from Constable Slindile Ntuli, from Muldersdrift police’s corporate communications department, she explained that the murder happened on 11 January.
The 21-year-old victim who lived in the Joe Slovo informal settlement came home from work at about 2.30pm on Saturday. After arriving home he and the 22-year-old suspect, who allegedly lived on the same premises, became involved in an argument.

“During the argument, the suspect stabbed the victim on his upper body and fled the scene,” the statement read.
Paramedics declared the victim dead on scene.
Ntuli said the investigating officer, Captain Phiri interviewed people at the scene and asked a mutual friend of both the victim and the suspect to inform him of the suspect’s whereabouts.
The friend phoned Phiri at about 5 am on Sunday, 12 January to inform him that the suspect had asked him for help to relocate.
Phiri and the friend went to meet with the suspect after the friend told the suspect that he had organised a lift for him and he should hurry.
“The suspect emerged from the bushes and jumped inside the police car unaware it was being driven by Captain Phiri,” Ntuli said.
The suspect was then arrested and taken to the police station.
“Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare applauds Captain Phiri for his hard work and also thanked the member of the community for assisting the police on this matter. He also encouraged the community to work closely with the police in order to ensure safety within our society.”
