Local woman writes book about abuse and walking away
Nthabiseng Raduvha recently published her first book. While not planning on writing the book, her research led her to realising that she herself had been abused.
Nthabiseng Raduvha is a strong woman with strong goals for herself and others. Not only has she survived abuse but these days she is trying to help others survive as well.
In Nthabiseng’s beautifully decorated living room, she tells the story of how she was married to an emotional abuser for 22 years.
But she doesn’t dwell on the past for too long; instead, she looks to the future and talks about the book she launched in December last year.
Walk Away, Abuse is Death is her first book in which Nthabiseng outlines some of the signs and symptoms of abuse. Topics include the types of abuse, the cycle of abuse, the cause of abuse and many more. The book concludes with real-life stories of women who have been abused and the impact the abuse had on their families.

Strangely, Nthabiseng said that her own abuse was not what led her to write the book. In 2015, while doing her doctorate in leadership and management, she had to do a dissertation, and chose abuse as the topic.
While doing research, she realised that she herself was in an abusive situation, saying; “I did not know I was going through it until I started my research”. That was when she decided to write a book that can be accessible to people who do not have access to research.
“I am a warrior; I survived abuse,” Nthabiseng stated proudly, while talking about the men she had spent her life with and raised three children on her own.
A strong, independent woman, Nthabiseng is a Free State girl from QwaQwa who has spent 18 years in education. First she was a teacher but later became the head of her department. After working as an outreach librarian in Tshwane she was transferred to Mogale City where she now is the Senior Librarian at the Mogale City Library.
With her first book not even off the presses, Nthabiseng has already started her second one and also wants to start the Walk Away non-profit organisation. The organisation will assist those who have suffered abuse as well as create awareness about the problem of abuse.
