Boys get fed up with pothole – make a plan to fill it

Two boys got fed up with a pothole in front of their house and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Two boys from Silverfields took it upon themselves to fix a pothole in front of their house.

The 11-year-old Deilin van Zyl and 14-year-old Chris Kruger said that a pothole emerged in front of their house on the corner of Wimborne Road and Chelsea Avenue in Silverfields, last year in October.

The two boys first filled it with sand, but that did not last long. On Tuesday, 14 January they had enough and decided to do a proper job because, they said, no one else was doing it.

They took some cement from Deilin’s parents’ backyard and the two boys got to work filling the pothole.

Deilin’s mother, Charlene said their home is on a rather busy street so the boys had to think of safety first.

They put out cones to warn approaching drivers, they wore their safety vests to be visible and even directed traffic.

After filling the pothole the boys also repainted the lines on the road.

The two Laerskool Dr Havinga learners are an example to others, showing that a relatively small deed can make a huge difference.
