Krugersdorp gets its own Anti-Valentine’s Day event

There is a need for more occasions to get together

A team of local businesses believe it’s high time to create more opportunities for the tightly knit communities, friends and families of Krugersdorp to celebrate their relationships and vibrant lives together.

That is why they are hosting the town’s very own Anti-Valentine’s Day Dinner celebration.

The owners of Infinity Tea Garden on Viljoen Street, Krugersdorp North, and Two Balloons and a Van (Two Balloons) Event Planning and Decor will be serving a special dinner on Wednesday, 12 February to give residents an event where they can have fun together.

“Today many of the closest relationships are no longer just romantic,” explained Natasha Niemand, owner of Two Balloons. “Across the world, Anti-Valentine’s Day and Singles Day have become events for singles, friends, communities and couples who don’t buy into the hearts and roses of Valentine’s Day to celebrate themselves and one another.”

Known as Singles Day or National Singles Day in countries such as China, the UK and the US, the fun holiday is commemorated at different times of the year, depending on the country. All these events honour the individuality and value of people, regardless of their relationship or marital status.

“We’ve created an opportunity where people of every relationship status can enjoy a unique dinner with great company and great food to recognise the vital role they play in each other’s lives,” Natasha added.

“Everyone is invited, whether you’re celebrating as a group or a couple, to book and join us at the tea garden.”

There is a need for more occasions to get together

The event is being catered for by Infinity Tea Garden’s Jannie Joubert and Jaco Strydom, a duo that has been serving the area as caterers for more than 10 years.

Jannie noted that his team realised the need for people in Krugersdorp and surrounds to get out of the house and enjoy significant moments together without having to pay five-star prices.

“Too often people wait for a big event like a wedding or an important birthday to get together, celebrate and treat themselves,” he said. “While we all like to dress up and enjoy great food once in a while, the prices of upmarket establishments are often out of reach of ordinary people. That’s why we’re keeping the price for starters, a mains platter, dessert, beverages and photo booth session to R200 per person.”

Jaco, his partner, added that he would like to see more local hospitality businesses create opportunities for communities in and around the area to meet up. “In a time when everything is rushed and there are fewer opportunities for loved ones or even just neighbours to go out and reconnect, we believe an event like our Anti-Valentine’s Day Dinner, set in our garden, is just what people need to relax and be reminded of what’s important to them,” he concluded.
