Real cops concerned about fake cops operating on Malibongwe Drive
Be vigilant and alert at all times.
The Muldersdrift Police commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare, has raised concerns about the increase in hijackings on Malibongwe Drive.
Setlhare is concerned by the many reports of hijackings that bogus cops are involved in along Malibongwe Drive in broad daylight, believed to be happening during between 9am and 4pm, and urged road users to be vigilant.
The spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Police, Constable Slindile Ntuli said motorists who use Malibongwe Drive daily are likely to be victimised by observant potential hijackers.
She provided the following tips for motorists:
• Be vigilant and alert at all times.
• Do not stop when signalled to do so by unmarked vehicles with blue lights in remote areas.
• If you suspect that you are being followed, drive directly to the nearest police station or filling station for your own safety.
• If another vehicle bumps your car from behind, do not assume it was an accident; it could be a trap set by hijackers.
• Do not pick up hitchhikers.
She also advised motorists be on the lookout for a white VW Polo; white Golf 7; white Ford Ranger; red Golf and black Golf, as they have been linked to the spate of hijackings.
