Investigation in Bekker boy’s drowning still ongoing after autopsy is concluded

A statement from Bekker Primary School SGB was released about the situation.

The postmortem examination of the Grade 7 Bekker Primary School learner, Keamogetswe Seboko, has been concluded.

Keamogetswe’s drowning made headlines at the start of the year when his body was found in the Bekker Primary School’s hostel swimming pool on 15 January.

The school released a statement where the School Governing Body’s (SGB) chairperson, Willie Dry stated, “The police investigation is still underway and the dossier will be handed to the Public Prosecutor as soon as the investigation is concluded”.

According to the statement, Dry confirmed that the school is giving its full cooperation.

“The school acted immediately by informing the police, emergency services and the Gauteng Education Department of the incident,” the statement read.

“Speculation, especially on social media, serves no purpose and adds to the trauma of Keamogetswe’s family and that of the school community,” Dry said in the statement, adding that no other details about the incident could be made available.

In the statement Dry explained that the SGB is committed to working with others during this investigation.

“We are also expressing our sympathy again with the boy’s parents, family and friends.”
