A security guard owes his life to ‘man’s best friend’ – his guard dog, which took a bullet for him after they were attacked by armed robbers recently.
Conserv Security explained what happened on their Facebook page and the Oostermoed Security group also issued a statement.
According to their reports, three armed men attacked a security guard at the Hotel Letamo estate in Kromdraai on Friday, 21 February at about 4am.
The men wanted to shoot the guard, but was surprised when his guard dog, Boris, attacked.

Boris attacked one of the intruders and they fired shots at the dog, which was hit in the face.
Before Boris was injured he managed to seriously injure one of the suspects which ensured that the man left a blood spoor that could be traced.
The Oostermoed statement said after shooting Boris, the suspects held up the guard, staff and guests in their rooms. They locked the staff and guests in a room and made off with cell phones, laptops, TV’s and wallets.
Other than Boris and the one suspect, no one else was injured.
“We activated our security teams who were on site in minutes,” Conserve said in their post.

“Oostermoed was contacted for support and a K9 unit was dispatched. Upon arrival we followed the spoor with Molly and tracked the suspects but they got to a main road and were probably picked up by a vehicle,” the Oostermoed statement said.
The injured Boris was found in a nearby thicket and rushed to the Rant-en-Dal Animal Hospital.
The suspects shot at Boris numerous times and one bullet, that hit Boris, was removed and he will be going home.
“One brave dog saved the guard’s life and distracted the criminals and also encouraged them to leave. Boris deserves a medal, but better still when we arrest these cowards, I think we should return them to Boris as he still has some unfinished business,” Conserv’s post concluded.
According to Oostermoed the police were contacted and a case has been opened.
