“The are ways to teach your child the skills to prevent sexual abuse,” Captain Raymond Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police said.
One of the ways is to talk straight about body parts, and a no-secrets policy, Sebonyane explained.
“We teach our young children all sorts of ways to keep themselves safe. We teach them to watch the hot stove, and we teach them to look both ways before crossing the street. But, more often than not, body safety is not taught until it is too late,” he said sadly.

He explained that some people who seem like pillars of the community and look decent from the outside might be the ones who want to exploit children.
These people can use social media to unlawfully and intentionally engage the services of a child under the age of 18.
He is of the opinion that children should be warned not to accept any form of reward in exchange for sexual favours.
One such case occurred in Munsieville recently when a 78-year-old man was arrested after offering a 15-year-old girl R100 to have sex with him.
“The suspect briefly appeared in court. The investigation continues,” Sebonyane said.
He added that the acting Krugersdorp Police station commander, Colonel Masango condemned the actions of the person who was supposed to be a real grandfather and a role model to the children in the community.
“Adults are expected to love and take care of the children; it is believed that a child is raised by the community,” Masango said.
She also encouraged the community to report any crime against children. They may contact Child Line on 0800 555 555 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
