R500 reward for information about driver who hit a puppy and drove away

Hitting a dog and driving away could lead to a case being opened with the police. A local woman is offering a reward for information about a driver that ran over a German Shepard puppy.

A local woman is offering a reward for information regarding the driver of a car that hit a puppy on Sunday, 23 February.

Bina Oosthuizen said the German shepherd puppy, Coco, was hit in Van Lill Street, Mindalore between 12.15pm and 12.30pm.

The person that ran over Coco just left him in the middle of the road and drove away.

Coco is getting excellent treatment in hospital.

A woman stopped, picked up Coco and put him on the sidewalk where another woman got him and took him to the vet. Poor Coco had a broken front paw and a collapsed lung.

Bina said she is furious because Coco was left in the middle of the road for another car to hit and maybe kill him.

Coco’s owner eventually signed him over to the women who took him to the vet. He is doing well and will recover.

“I am willing to pay a R500 reward to anyone who can give me information about the person who hit Coco with their car,” Bina said.

Coco is still in hospital.

Mike Allan, a Roodepoort Krugersdorp SPCA inspector explained that hitting an animal and driving away without attending to it is against the law.

“You have to ascertain if the animal is okay,” he said.

If you have the registration number of the car, you can contact the SPCA. A case of cruelty could be opened with the police

If you have any information about the person who hit Coco, please phone Bina on 079 993 6747.
