The accomplishments of top learners in the District were celebrated at the end of January.
The NSC Top Achievers Awards 2019 ceremony for Gauteng West was held at Ahmed Timol Secondary School in Azaadville. Throughout the evening various awards were given to schools and learners for their exceptional achievements.
IIsmail Casmod from Azaadville Muslim School was named the best achiever in a township school with 1 677 marks; Neleha Coetzee from Hoërskool Noordheuwel was the best achiever in a town school with 1 654 marks; and Felicia Mabo from Magaliesburg State School was named top achiever in a rural school with 1 292 marks.

The Best Performing Town School awards were given to Hoërskool Noordheuwel with a 100 per cent pass rate with 303 passes, 284 Bachelor passes, 493 distinctions and 1 080 points; with Monument High School in second with a 99,7 per cent pass rate; and Krugersdorp High School in third with a 96,3 per cent pass rate.
Mandisa Shiceka Secondary School was the Best Performing Township school with a 92,7 per cent pass rate with 203 passes, 14 Bachelor passes, 58 distinctions and 375 points. Ithuteng Secondary School received the award for Best Performing Rural School with a 67,9 per cent pass rate with 57 passes, 13 Bachelor passes, 11 distinctions and 81 points.

Gauteng West finished in the 10th position in Gauteng for its performance during the 2019 matric finals, and is number 81 among all the districts in the country.
Hoërskool Noordheuwel placed first in the District and sixth in the province, with Monument second in the District and ninth in the province.

Noordheuwel had five learners among the Top 10 achievers in town schools, garnering the number one, two, four, six and 10 positions. Monument had three learners in the Top 10, taking up the fifth, eighth and ninth positions.
