St Ursula’s donates life-saving blood
St Ursula's recently held their third annual blood drive and those at the school were eager to contribute.
A couple of years ago, a learner at St Ursula’s School approached the school with a proposal called Serviam.
Serviam translates to ‘I will serve’, and over the years it has been the school’s motto and mantra. Minenhle Mlilo wanted to host an annual blood drive in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service at the school.

This year St Ursula’s held its third blood drive, with many of the staff, and learners of 16 years and older participating. They collect approximately 20 units of blood. Three people can be saved with every blood donation, as a donation can be split into red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Currently, the SANBS’ blood supply will last only about five days, and blood donations are dearly needed every day.
If you wish to donate blood and find a blood drive near you, or if you’re interested in organising your own, visit the SANBS at https://www.sanbs.org.za.
