‘It takes a village to raise a child’
Members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church donated clothes and sanitary towels to the needy.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Southern Africa (ELCSA) went beyond the call of duty and contributed positively towards needy school children.
The ELCSA’s Prayer Men and Women’s League donated school uniforms and sanitary towels to learners at the Munsieville Primary School in Mayibuye.
According to the church spokesperson, councillor Norman Sedumedi, the donation came after the church league members had noticed learners going to school barefoot and some not having proper school uniforms.

Sedumedi said the donations came from monthly contributions by league members towards the church’s social responsibility programmes. He said the learners were identified with the assistance of the school’s principal and educators.
“We are very grateful that the school afforded us an opportunity to contribute towards the maintenance of the children. This initiative forms part of our church’s social responsibility programme. We are showing love to our community while spreading the Word of God,” said Sedumedi.
“We have a relationship with the school and invited some of the learners to our church. We are happy for the learners and we hope their parents will also appreciate our efforts,” he added.
The school uniforms include shirts, school shoes, pairs of trousers for boys and skirts for the girls. Sanitary towels were given to Grades 6 and 7 learners.
The school principal, Judith Mkhize said she was full of joy and appreciated what the church had done.
“I am over the moon that the church is keeping their promises by looking after our learners. As the school, we want to say thank you very much and we wish that the Almighty God can bless them. May they continue doing these good deeds to other schools as well.”
