“Domestic violence and attack on women are still rife in some households, despite efforts by law-enforcement agencies and government departments to put an end to it,” according to a statement sent by the Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya.
This statement came as another shocking story emerged about a man who allegedly attacked and assaulted his niece, using an empty beer bottle.
Sibiya said on 8 March, a woman and her grandmother were discussing helping one of their family members and decided they would accommodate him in a shack in their yard.

This, however, angered the man and according to the statement he charged at the woman and first slapped her with an open hand.
He then allegedly took a beer bottle and hit her in the face with it.
“She sustained an open wound and was later taken to hospital for treatment,” said Sibiya.
After the grandmother had reported the matter to the Kagiso Police, the 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm and domestic violence.
The statement also mentioned that the man had appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
