Eye Gaze will help Jade through school
Jade Robbertze was born with cerebral palsy, and her family is now raising funds to buy an Eye Gaze that will help her with her schoolwork.
Seven-year-old Jade Robbertze will warm even the coldest of hearts with her bright smile and bubbly personality. Despite her many challenges, she is a very determined young girl.
Jade was born with cerebral palsy – she cannot sit, walk or crawl on her own – but this does not stop her from living her life to the fullest. With her mother Caro’s help she can do anything she puts her mind to.
She is now in Grade 1 and is doing really well in school, partly because Jade works with an Eye Gaze at school.
Because she cannot use her hands, she uses the Eye Gaze device to work on the computer. This amazing device tracks Jade’s eye movements so that she can control the computer’s mouse with her eyes. This enables Jade not only to type, but also keep up with her school work.
She has been a learner at the West Rand School in Krugersdorp since the age of three, and has been using the Eye Gaze for the past three years. Caro said Jade is doing very well in school, and that she is very artistic and loves it when they build Lego together.
She explained that they wanted to buy a second Eye Gaze for Jade, one that she could use at home and do homework, in order for her to keep up with her school work and stay in the mainstream school. However, they do not have the necessary hard and software at home for the Eye Gaze.
The Eye Gaze costs R27 000, but the family also needs a suitable laptop and the Grid 3 communication software that is specifically programmed for Jade’s needs.
Jade said that except for enjoying school work she also enjoys watching TV and horse riding, which she does with the school.
The family has already raised R20 028 of the money they need. They are asking the community and those with open hearts who would like to donate to help them in this cause.
