Coronavirus: Restrictions imposed on visiting hours at Gauteng public health facilities
Gauteng Health Department has placed restrictions on visiting hours to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
As the number of Covid-19 infections continues to rise, the Gauteng Department of Health has placed strict limitations on visiting hours at public health facilities across the province to help prevent the spread of the virus.
As of 19 March, visiting hours will be limited to one hour per day, between noon and 1pm. The restrictions follow President Cyril Ramaphosa declaring the Covid-19 outbreak a national disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002.
Further restrictions will apply as follows:
• A patient will be allowed a maximum of two visitors per day.
• Only one visitor per patient will be allowed at a time, for no more than 15 minutes.
• There will be no rotation of visitors.
• No visitors will be allowed outside of the specific visiting hours.
• For any visits outside the prescribed time, arrangements must be made and authorised by the attending doctor.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases as at 22 March, has gone up by 34, totalling 274 cases.
