Mogale workers fix broken water pipe during lockdown

Municipal workers were sent out on the first day of the 21-day lockdown to dig up and repair a burst pipe affecting parts of Rant-en-Dal, Noordheuwel and Monument.

Some residents have been without water on Friday, 27 March due to a large water leakage in Rant-and-Dal.

The areas affected are parts of Rant-en-Dal, Noordheuwel and Monument.

Mogale City Local Municipality was informed and quickly sent out multiple Water and Sanitation workers to rectify the problem. Upon inspection, they located the source, received permission to enter a private residency as the pipe was located against the perimeter palisades, and work began to dig a trench. A tractor loader backhoe was brought in to remove the soil to access the pipe.

“The water supply was temporarily suspended to make way for repair work, which is being carried out urgently,” read an update from the MCLM’s Corporate Communications department.

“We apologise for the inconvenience that this interruption has caused to residents and other essential operating businesses in Mogale City.”

On the first day of the 21-day lockdown due to the novel coronavirus, MCLM has shown that they are still operational, that essential staff are available to fix problems in the town and that services should continue largely uninterrupted.
