Lockdown in Mogale – What about funerals?
In a recent message to the public, the municipality announced rules surrounding funerals and cemeteries during the 21-day lockdown period.
During recent communications between Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) and the News, clarification was provided on the question whether we will be able to bury loved ones during the lockdown.
The short answer is yes, but some rules and regulations apply.
As per the MCLM statement: public visits to all Mogale City cemeteries are prohibited until further notice. Only one funeral service may be held per session per cemetery, which results in burial services being allocated to different time slots. No more than 50 people will be allowed to attend each funeral service. The funeral procession and service must be started and completed within one hour. Public Safety officials will be stationed at Mogale City cemeteries. No night vigils or overnight church services may be held. No funeral service should be held in a hall or a tent. Catering must be in takeaway form as no sit-in options will be allowed.
Finally, grave-site payments can be made by EFT from any bank account to the municipal bank account, namely Mogale City Local Municipality – Sundry Revenue, or by direct deposit at Standard Bank under Mogale City Local Municipality, 096N.
