WATCH: Pango Camp residents fear a corona outbreak

Residents of the Pango Camp informal community in Munsieville say they fear for their health and others like them. They have nothing to protect them against the coronavirus.

Only a few days after the country has gone into lockdown, the residents of the Pango Camp say they are fearing the inevitable.

They had not received any support from government to help them fight against the coronavirus.

In videos sent to the News, the residents pleaded for help, saying they have no money for things like hand sanitizer, masks or even food.

Most of the residents in that community are car guards and beggars, or collect recyclables and live from day to day. They do not have money for medical supplies, medicine or even food during the 21-day lockdown.

In the video, compiled by the News, they are asking President Cyril Ramaphosa not to forget about them and others in similar situations.

The unofficial spokesperson of Pango Camp, Nicky van Niekerk confirmed that no one has approached them to offer help, saying; “We are praying and holding on to hope”.
