Department of Health checks on Kagiso shoppers

Davids ensured that shopping outlets followed the lockdown health and safety regulations, going from store to store to do so

To ensure that lockdown regulations were adhered to, especially regarding a special request from the Mogale City Local Municipality to accommodate the elderly, the Gauteng MEC of Health, Bandile Masuku together with ward councillor Doreen Davids, visited the area on Monday, 30 March.

This followed an appeal by the Executive Mayor, Francis Makgatho for ” … the retail sector, including supermarkets to prioritise care and service for elderly people on payment days”.

Masuku and Davids ensured that shopping outlets followed the lockdown health and safety regulations, going from store to store to do so, and speaking to the elderly who were queuing to buy their month’s groceries.

Some stores had lined up chairs in a queue outside their entrance, a couple of metres apart, where the elderly could sit and wait to enter, instead of standing in line the entire time. Shoppers were also screened at the doors and their hands sanitized by the staff.

The Department of Health also set up an area where they provided flu vaccinations to the elderly.
