Authorities keeping the public safe

Public safety and police recently set up a roadblock at the N14 and R24 intersection to ensure no one is outside and driving if they do not have to be.

Mogale City Public Safety and local police members came together at the four-way stop on the N14 and the R24 in Tarlton recently to check that no one was wandering around outside without a valid reason.

Armed with gloves, masks and loads of hand sanitizer, the members set up a roadblock and stopped vehicles passing by. They even shared their sanitizer with some of the drivers.

News journalist, Natasha Pretorius, observed police officers stopping a taxi to check its papers and the number of passengers. Other cars were stopped and searched while officers asked the drivers where they were going and why they were outside their homes.

“In a time when not only the community but the country are constantly asking where our officers are, it was good to see the police and Public Safety being out and about,” Natasha said.

The day before, the police as well as SANDF members ran an awareness campaign in Tarlton where they educated the community about social distancing and ensured that it was being observed.

Driving through Tarlton, Natasha saw a handful of people who were out, but all were practicing social distancing while waiting to enter a shop.

Even Natasha could not escape the public policing as her papers were also checked to see whether she had permission to be outside her home.
