Azaadville donates 1 500 parcels to the needy
Azaadville has banded together, working with the MCLM to distribute mutliple food parcels to people in need in the Mogale City area.
During this time of lockdown, life is even more difficult for those who already know hardship.
Bearing of mind that now is the best time to reach out and help others, Ward 3 councillor Shabier Dabhelia, on behalf of the Azaadville Covid-19 Response Team, in cooperation with the Mogale City Local Minucipality (MCLM) Executive Mayor, Francis Makgatho and Speaker of Council, Noluthando Mangole, delivered food parcels to underprivileged families in Rietvallei.
“The community of Azaadville launched a Covid-19 Response Team comprising of components in the areas of medical and food suppliers to help pensioners and the elderly and to also extend a helping hand to the Rietvallei community and surrounding neighbours in Rietvallei 2 and 3,” a communique from the MCLM read.
The team’s aim is to distribute 500 of these parcels to each of the three areas. Later they plan to move on to Swanieville, Kagiso and other areas as the need arises.
“The Covid-19 Response Team, under the Azaadville community banner, has mobilised various organisations to fund, and to perform key activities and responsibilities during this period. These include sourcing funding, purchasing essential items, packaging, distributing and logistics,” the MCLM said.
“This will hopefully be an ongoing project if there is a need beyond the 21-days lockdown. We thank the municipality, police members and everybody involved as well as the recipients for affording us the opportunity to fulfil our obligations of taking care of their needs,” Dabhelia said.
