Kagiso Police extend a helping hand

While doing their duties and ensuring in Kagiso during the lockdown, the Kagiso Police helped out some residents in their community.

While trying to teach residents about social distancing and staying inside, the Kagiso Police also offered a helping hand to some of them.

Responding to a complaint of a domestic dispute at Riverside in Kagiso recently, police found two girls aged 13 and 16 respectively in a shack with their father.

A little girl and her brother were playing outside when police took them home.

Their neighbour told police that the father was attempting suicide because he was unemployed, his sick wife was sent back to her country of origin for treatment, and he needed to take care of his two daughters.

The man started working as a taxi driver four months ago and was now unemployed due to the lockdown. This meant he could not provide for their two daughters.

The police approached social workers and a local non-profit organisation (NGO) for assistance, and the NGO came to the family’s rescue and provided them with groceries.

Police also found a four-year-old girl playing with her 11-year-old brother and some older boys a few streets from their home. They followed her and her brother home to ensure they arrived safely, and then warned their mother to watch them more closely.

Helping out community members did not stop there as they also assisted some elderly residents at a local ATM.
