Keeping the community safe one building at a time
Mogale Response Services and Disaster Management volunteers have been sanitizing the town to keep its residents safe.
Hundreds of people still brave the outside world every day, whether it be for essential supplies, going to work or seeking medical care. The Mogale Response Services and Disaster Management volunteers have made it their mission to keep the community safe.

For the past few weeks these brave men and women have been going out and sanitizing buildings, parking lots and spaces where the most movement of people are.
They use a mixture of chlorine and water, which they then spray on buildings, in parking lots, onto shopping trolleys, and even ambulances and ambulance bays.

Every morning the Mogale City municipal refuse removal trucks stop in front of the Krugersdorp Fire Station where they are also sanitized before going out into the community.
Gerhardt Nieuwoudt, Regional Commander of Mogale City’s Emergency Services, said the idea originated after seeing what China was doing to sanitize their public places. He explained that this is the most cost-effective way of sanitizing, with minimal damage to the environment.

Then almost a week into their efforts, as they were asking for chlorine donations, Sigura, a water-treatment company, donated enough chlorine to help them for a few months.
“We would like to thank the company for such a generous donation to a very good cause,” Sharday van den Berg from Mogale Response Services said.
The teams said they would continue sanitizing until the coronavirus outbreak is under control.

If you would like to assist them in their efforts, you can do so by donating cold drinks and water for the disaster management volunteers who assist them every day, and need to stay hydrated. The teams have other projects as well.
You can contact Sharday on 064 169 7922 if you would like to assist.
