Last week, Krugersdorp High School (KHS) opened its gates for the learners of the school to use its new Drive-thru Data Centre.
At this difficult time of the national state of disaster while the school buildings are closed, parents and educators alike are concerned about ensuring that the learners still have a sense of normality and that as little as possible of the curriculum is lost.
“Therefore, our educators have tried to continue to provide work according to the curriculum for our learners to complete, by teaching and learning remotely. Of huge concern has been that going online when data availability is limited in many households has increased unforeseen expenditure in households that are already very fragile due to financial constraints,” a statement from the school read.
Principal Ivan Bailey and his team of experts from KHS found the solution – a Drive-thru Data Centre.
During the allocated time, parents can bring their children to school, and while sitting safely in their cars they will be able to download their work for the week ahead.
The school will allow only 40 cars on the property at a time, and no one is allowed to get out of their vehicles. As soon as the learner has finished retrieving the work for the week, they are requested to leave. School security is available to assist.
Throughout the lockdown, KHS has endeavoured to continue providing work for their learners.
They have been providing lessons that are communicated via WhatsApp, Moodle, YouTube, Instagram and Teams, and the management has ensured that as a school, they find a solution to all the situations that arise for their families, the statement said.
