Earlier this week, Kagiso Police’s crime-prevention members were performing their routine duties when they received a complaint of a murder in Tshepisong.
At the given address they found members of the community gathering in the street and staring at the nearby field. Police spotted the bodies of two men lying in the open field with stones and rocks next to them, and indications were that the two men had been stoned to death and their bodies set alight.
Paramedics subsequently declared them dead on the scene. Their next of kin and residents were able to positively identify them on the scene.
They were aged 23 and 32 respectively, and were residents of Tshepisong.Kagiso Police are investigating the motive for the killings, but no arrests have been made yet.
“The culture of attacking and killing people is becoming a fashion in some areas of Kagiso, despite continued calls by police and recognised community-based structures not to do so. Anyone who participates in the act will be arrested, charged with murder and taken to court. Police have the responsibility to investigate, arrest and bring the perpetrator(s) before court. Members of the public’s responsibility is to be the eyes and ears of the police, but not to judge and apply inhumane tactics to crucify other human beings based on their unsupported judgement.
More people could be victims of this inhumane behaviour. Once more we want to urge our communities to respect life and refrain from such criminal behaviour,” a concerned Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna said.
Kagiso Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the arrest of the perpetrators to call them on 011 696 9000/ 9059/ 9065/ 9067 or the Crime Stop Line 08600 10111.
