Mogale’s water supply disrupted following Eikenhof power failure
Emergency water tankers have been deployed to five affected suburbs as Rand Water works to refill its depleted reservoirs.
Mogale City Local Municipality has confirmed that a power supply issue at Rand Water’s Eikenhof has been resolved, although Rand Water’s reservoirs remain low.
According to the municipality’s senior communications practitioner, Tendani Shavani, Rand Water began pumping to replenish its reservoirs at 22:00 on September 13, and pumping to other areas including Mogale City.
Rand Water’s spokesperson Makenosi Maroo confirmed pumping has been reduced due to a power failure at their Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant, which supplies Eikenhof.
Suburbs including Kagiso, Kenmare, Azaadville, Rangeview, and Dan Pienaarville were left with dry taps this morning, prompting the municipality to dispatch water tankers to affected residents.
Residents with access to water have been urged to use it sparingly, as the system will take time to recover. The municipality stated it will update the public once the system has fully recovered.
