Monument Primary takes extreme caution

Thabile Mange from Kagiso writes:

The school premises has been closed for more than two months, and the educators and learners of Monument Primary cannot wait to go back. Because the school has been running on Microsoft Teams since the beginning of the term, work will continue as learners return to school.

Just because no teaching has taken place within the classroom, it does not mean that learners have stopped working. According to a statement from the school, it was quite the contrary.

Learners from Grade R all the way to Grade 7 have been receiving work from their teachers on a weekly basis, and the lessons have been both age-specific and relevant to the continuation of learning.

The school has already been deep-sanitized by Bidvest in collaboration with the Department of Education. Once learners are back at school, it will be sanitized twice daily. The school has received personal protection equipment (PPE) for its management team, and the rest of the PPE should be delivered within the next couple of days.

The school has received thermometers, but has decided to buy additional ones as the strict protocols that have been set up by the Department of Education in conjunction with the Department of Health will be followed.

“When our Grade 7 learners come back to school, we will recap the work that has been done in the first week to consolidate it. We will be specifically cognisant of dealing with the psycho-social impact that the lockdown potentially has had on our learners and staff. The school has also ensured that professional help and assistance have been made available to deal with any of these issues that members of the Monument Primary family may be dealing with at the moment.

It is of utmost importance to us as a school to ensure that all our families are being supported in as many ways possible as we enter into phasing in education at the school and developing a new norm for all of those at Monument Primary.
