Police arrest 25-year-old for being in possession of stolen goods

The newly appointed Tarlton Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Minky Magooe, applauded members for their swift response and good police work.

According to a statement from the office of the Tarlton Police station commander, they arrested a 25-year-old man who was in possession of suspected stolen goods.

The arrest was the result of a good working relationship between police and the community. The police received an anonymous tip-off about suspicious activities at a certain shack in the area known as Smoke Down informal settlement in Tarlton.

The prompt response by members led to the discovery of numerous electronic items and gadgets to the estimated value of R20 000. The man was arrested in the process.

Among the roles and responsibilities of the police is to promote public safety through breaking the cycle of crime. Buying and possessing stolen goods are crimes that are punishable by the state. Any person who is found to be in possession of goods of which there is reasonable suspicion that they have been stolen and/ or ownership cannot be proved, will be prosecuted.
