Police have arrested a 26-year-old murder suspect on 10 June in central Kagiso after she was linked to the murder of a Randfontein teacher who was reported missing on 30 September 2017 and later found dead near Soweto.
According to a statement sent by Kagiso Police, the victim was reported missing by his sister after he had failed to return home that night.
He allegedly arrived home at about 8pm to drop off his youngest sister and left again, and that was the last time he was seen alive.
A missing person inquiry was opened at Kagiso Police Station and police launched a full-scale search that also involved community structures.
During investigations, five suspects, among them a minor, were arrested and charged with multiple charges including theft, robbery and murder. They were all sentenced to life imprisonment, except for the minor who was given a suspended sentence.
The victim’s car was recovered at the house of the 26-year-old female suspect, who had gone into hiding and evaded arrest.Earlier this week, police received information about her whereabouts. They acted on the information and pounced on the suspect. She was detained at Kagiso Police Station and a case docket was re-opened.
Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna, applauded his investigation officers for their consistency and for their attitude of never giving up.
“This will be music to the ears of the deceased’s family and hopefully they will be able to close that sad chapter, knowing that justice was served to them at last,” said Maduna.
The suspect is facing charges of murder, theft and robbery, and will appear in court soon.
