Three suspects busted for hijacking

All three suspects were detained at Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of hijacking was opened

Three suspects aged between 23 and 30 were arrested on 10 June in Tshepisong following a hijacking and shooting incident at Leratong Village near Leratong Hospital.

According to a statement by Kagiso Police, the victim was sitting inside his parked car in front of a house at Leratong Village. He was talking to his daughter who was standing next to the vehicle.

An unknown armed attacker suddenly appeared. He grabbed the man’s daughter by the arm and without saying a word, started firing shots directly at the man. He pulled the wounded man out of his vehicle and onto the ground. The hijacker and his two accomplices then sped off in the man’s vehicle.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the left upper body and was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.Police immediately launched a manhunt with intelligent-driven investigations for the armed suspect and hijacked vehicle in and around Tshepisong.

Meanwhile the hijackers had lost control of the vehicle near Dobsonville and it overturned, giving police the opportunity to pounce on them. The firearm suspected to have been used in the crime was also recovered during the arrest.

Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna said, “Bravery and dedication to arrest perpetrators of violent crimes will not go unnoticed as we continue to squeeze criminals out of our policing precinct”.

All three suspects were detained at Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of hijacking was opened.

They will appear briefly in court soon while police continue with investigations.
