Two arrested after Chancliff shootout

Police are appealing to the community to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

Two men aged 32 and 34 were arrested for a robbery that happened in one of the houses on Warwick Street in Chancliff on Wednesday, 17 June at approximately 11.30am.

It is alleged that four unknown men fired shots while entering the house. One of the occupants in the house retaliated by returning fire.

The thugs fled the scene in a Suzuki Swift and VW Golf with an unknown registration number, taking with them a Samsung laptop. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Local police swiftly responded to the information and arrested two of the suspects, and recovered the Suzuki not far from the scene in an open veld next to Valley View Retail Centre.

Two firearms, both with serial numbers filed off, housebreaking implements and a gun cartridge were found in the vehicle. It was later found that the vehicle had been stolen in Mondeor.The men are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Investigations continue as two other suspects are still at large. Police are making an clarion call to the entire community to refrain from creating a market for stolen goods. Buying and storing stolen property constitute a crime punishable by law.

The Krugersdorp Police station commander, Brigadier Mashao commended and thanked the members for their swift reaction.

He further thanked the community for the information that led to the arrests.

They are advised not to confront the suspects as they are armed and dangerous.
