A 37-year-old suspect was arrested on 19 June at about 6am for an armed robbery he allegedly committed early last month in Swanieville.
On 11 May at about 7pm, a man was walking in an open space, when three others appeared and confronted him. One of the thugs, who was armed with a firearm, suddenly cocked it and ordered the man to hand over his cellphone.
The victim immediately recognised the armed man as someone he knew well.
He pleaded with him to stop since he knew him, but instead one of the other robbers took the cellphone from him and the three left. The victim reported the matter at Kagiso Police where a case docket of armed robbery was registered. Police launched an investigation and started searching for the suspects.
The suspects had been on the run until Wednesday, 17 June, when police received information about the armed suspect’s whereabouts. They pounced on him in the early hours of the next morning. Two of his accomplices are still on the run.
“You can not commit crime and expect to sleep comfortably as if nothing happened. The two other suspects can run day and night, but they cannot hide from the long arm of the law,” warned Colonel Peter Mabuso.
