
The issue of gender-based violence paints an extremely ugly picture of our country’s state of affairs and its management of human relations.
On 18 June, a woman and her sister allegedly were asleep at their home in Leratong Village next to Tshepisong when ther sister woke her up and pointed to an unknown man standing behind the door inside their bedroom. He was armed with a firearm and he threatened the two siblings not to scream.
According to a statement by the Kagiso Police, the intruder demanded cash, and took an undisclosed amount from the victim’s handbag and a cellphone. Then he raped her and fled the scene.
A case docket of house robbery and rape was opened at the Kagiso Police Station.
Police launched a manhunt for the armed suspect and a few hours later more information came forward from reliable sources.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and has been detained at Kagiso Police Station. He will appear briefly in court.
The acting station commander, Colonel Peter Mabuso said working together with communities will make a difference and ensure stability and safety in the area.
