A 31-year old man is in heaps of trouble after he took a cop’s firearm when they responded to a disturbance-of-peace call during the weekend. In the end though, Kagiso Police managed to arrest the man.
In a statement sent by the Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya he explained that police responded to a complaint in Chief Mogale in Kagiso at about 11.45pm on Saturday, 4 July, when loud music made it impossible for residents to sleep. The residents allegedly first attempted to stop the man from playing music that loud, but failed.

As the police arrived at the address the alleged culprit threw an empty beer bottle at the police vehicle, which damaged the windscreen,” read the statement.
The police vehicle then stopped and when one of the members got out, the man grabbed his service pistol from his holster and fled. The police immediately gave chase but the man fired shots at them.
“Other police officers also retaliated by firing a few shots to stop the man, but he kept running until he lost his step and fell to the ground, still in possession of the state firearm.”
The police was able to overpower and disarm him before placing him under arrest and detaining him at the Kagiso Police Station. He is facing charges of attempted murder, common robbery and malicious damage to state property.
Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna applauded the members for their bravery and vigilance. “The manner in which you dealt with such a violent and dangerous suspect who also have no respect for the law, showed how committed and ready you are to put your lives on the line to protect residents. Keep up the good work.”
The man had already appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
