Kagiso Police have called on men to stop abusive behaviour following two new cases of assault having been reported to them.
According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson, a woman from central Kagiso told police that on 2 July her boyfriend became angry, started swearing at her and threatened her with a knife.
He assaulted her and ended up tying her hands together with a cable.”
The Kagiso Police have since helped the woman to obtain a protection order against her boyfriend.
In an unrelated incident a woman from Tshepisong West told police that at about 6am on 6 July she noticed her ex-boyfriend following her when she was walking to the taxi rank.
“He attacked her and slapped her with open hands, demanding the money that he had given her while they were still in a relationship. The money was meant to cover her transport costs from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.
The man further threatened to kill her and her child. A case of assault is under police investigation.”
Brigadier Themba Maduna, The Kagiso Police station commander, thanked those who ensure that women are safe.
He said, “We want to applaud all those men who have made it a priority to protect and admire women and children. We also want to thank those who have taken it upon themselves to establish structures which seek to address, rehabilitate and educate those men troubled by possessiveness and jealousy.”
Captain Sibiya concluded by saying that July has been identified as Men’s Month.
“August is known as Women’s Month, and men have the responsibility and obligation to adore, love and protect women. It is the month identified for abusive and violent men to refrain from their abusive behaviour. Ironically a significant number of women and children have been brutally murdered by people they trusted in the name of love.”
