Man robbed at gunpoint by ‘friends’

A man was duped into believing his friends came to visit him but they were actually two robbers.

The Kagiso Police arrested a 24-year old man following a house robbery in Swanieville over the weekend.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained the man was facing charges of house robbery after they arrested him at about midnight on Sunday, 12 July.

The victim told police that two men came to his door at about 9pm on Saturday, 11 July. They pretended to be his friends and when he opened the door he realised they weren’t.

Once the victim opened the door, one of the men pointed a firearm at him while the other man demanded money. The man without the firearm searched the victim and took an undisclosed amount of cash before pushing him into the house and locking the door.

The intruders hit the man in the face and afterward ransacked his bedroom. They took a cellphone and two new T-shirts.

The victim reported the matter to the Kagiso Police where a case docket of house robbery was registered and a manhunt for the two suspects was launched,” said Sibiya.

One of them was caught the next day and the police’s search for the second suspect continues.

“I want to applaud my members for their swift response and dedication. The other suspect will join his accomplice soon. Anyone committing crime will not sleep peacefully, that is a promise we make,” warned Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.
