SPCA has vehicle woes after accident
The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA is asking for patience and help after a serious motor vehicle accident.
Friday, 24 July was an extremely long and busy day for the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA.
After a day filled with cruelty investigations and confiscating animals, a dedicated inspector was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident which has left the inspectorate department with one vehicle and one staff member down.
Thankfully, there were no animals in the bakkie at the time of the collision, but the severity of the collision left the female inspector injured and the car a complete write-off. After being transported to Flora Clinic by ambulance, the inspector was diagnosed with minor back and neck injuries as well as a fractured sternum that were caused by her seat belt.

Mandy Cattanach, the facility’s manager, has asked for the community’s patience during this time as it may take the SPCA a bit longer to collect strays and perform pre-homing inspections because cruelty investigations will be dealt with first. “Cruelty investigations always take priority, but we will get there,” said Mandy.
While asking for money is never easy, it is necessary in this case. Currently, the biggest way the community can contribute to getting the SPCA running at full speed again is with financial help. Mandy said the insurance will pay out for damages, but unfortunately will not cover the full cost of a new vehicle. The SPCA’s dash cam and GPS systems were also destroyed in the collision, so these will need to be replaced as well.
“The best way to help at the moment is financially,” said Mandy.
I know it is extremely difficult during these times but if there are any businesses or community members who can help us with a new vehicle, it will make a world of difference.”
She added that if a bakkie can be donated they have no problem advertising the company on the side of the vehicle as well.
Any small donation can make a huge difference, so if you would like to make a donation, big or small, or know of a way to help the SPCA during this time, please contact Mandy on 011 672 0448.
